Democritus
Democritus believed in "primary matter". All things were made of this matter. He said that matter was made up of atoms that could not be divided. He also said that the only difference between atoms were their size, shape, and weight. Atoms are based off of what they are. If it is iron it is strong and hard, and if it is water it is slippery and smooth.
Rutherford
"Father of nuclear physics". Rutherford proved radioactive life. He said that atoms have their positive charges in the nucleus. He was the first to "split the nucleus". He also performed the experiment "Gold Foil". Gold Foil proves the idea that there are electrons revolving around the nucleus and that an atom is mostly empty space.
